Amantrel drug is used for the treatment of Parkinson’s disease. Amantadine HCl, the active ingredient, is an antiviral drug that inhibits viruses’ actions in the body. It is also used in the treatment and prevention of Influenza A, which is a viral infection. However, Amantadine HCl is not recommended in some flu seasons as some flu strains may be resistant to this drug. This medicine is prescribed in treating Parkinson’s disease and Parkinson’s like stiffness and shaking that certain drugs may induce. It is also used as an antiviral drug. No dominant mechanism of action of Amantadine HCl is established till now. There are various pathways through which the drug exhibits antiviral and anti-parkinsonian activity.
