Description
Cystran 5 mg is a once-daily treatment for patients with overactive bladder. It contains the active substance oxybutynin, a member of the drug class- anticholinergics. By decreasing muscle spasm of the bladder, Oxybutynin causes relaxation of the muscles of the bladder and stop sudden muscle contraction, thereby controlling the release of water. Oxybutynin tablets relieve troublesome urinary symptoms like frequent and severe urinary urgency or urge continence (loss of control in passing urine. Doctors may prescribe Cystran tablets to children over five years of age to treat reduce night-time bedwetting in children, including other urinary bladder symptoms when other treatments have not worked. Urinary bladder symptoms include frequent and excessive urination and loss of control in passing urine.
Before prescribing Cystran 5 mg, investigate the cause of symptoms because they could be medication-related. Before receiving the treatment, inform your doctor if you are taking other medications for treating other medical conditions. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, tell your doctor before receiving Oxybutynin tablets. Do not take the drug and tell your doctor if you are allergic to Oxybutynin hydrochloride or any other ingredients of the medicine. Avoid taking the medication if you have a rare condition called myasthenia gravis that weakens the muscles in the body. Use of Cystran is contraindicated in patients with certain medical conditions such as increased pressure in the eye, a blockage that makes it difficult for you to pass urine, or you have frequent urination at night caused by heart or kidney disease. Also, before taking the medicine, your doctor should be aware of certain illnesses. These include kidney diseases, liver problems, autonomic neuropathy, overactive thyroid gland, heart disease, irregular heartbeat, gastrointestinal disorders, or enlarged prostate gland. Tell your doctor if you have been using any other medicines, including prescription medicines, herbal supplements, or vitamin pills. Oxybutynin can affect the mechanism of action of other medicine. Also, certain drugs may affect the way Cystran 5 mg tablets. Tell your doctor if you are taking medicines for the treatment of cramps, psychosis, mental illness, Parkinson’s disease, heart problems, allergic reactions, Alzheimer’s disease, nausea and vomiting.
Take Cystran 5 mg in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. The medicine is available in the form of a tablet, swallow it whole with a glass of water. Do not break or crush the tablet. Take it on an empty stomach to get the most benefit. Take it with food if it causes an upset stomach. Your doctor will decide the correct dose of the medicine; therefore, it is important to discuss with your doctor before using Cystran tablets.
