Description
Enapril is an ACE (angiotensin-converting enzyme) inhibitor drug. It is prescribed primarily for treating hypertension (high blood pressure), congestive heart failure and improving the chances of survival after a heart attack.
Enalapril (main salt composition) is also prescribed to treat a disorder of the ventricles (the heart’s lower chambers that allow blood to flow out of the heart). This disorder can decrease the heart’s ability to pump blood into the body. Enapril may also be given for conditions not mentioned here.
Some common side effects of Enalapril are dizziness, lightheadedness, fatigue, or headache. If any of these effects persist or deteriorate, get medical attention immediately. A serious side effect is unlikely. However, visit your doctor if you get any serious side effects due to elevated potassium levels (fast, irregular or rapid heartbeat, muscle weakness), fainting, decreased urination, or any other serious side effect.
Enalapril dosage may depend on a range of factors like age, sex, drug allergies, or seriousness of the condition, among several other factors. Your doctor will determine your dosage after examining you properly. Remember to follow his advice properly for the best results.
Do not alter the dosage unless recommended. Also, do not take this medication after the prescribed period is over. All medications come with a patient leaflet. Refer to the instructions in them for detailed information. Enalapril can be taken with or without food. Always store this medicine in a cool and dry place.
