Description
Lipicard containing Fenofibrate is a lipid regulation agent available as a tablet for oral administration. It should only be used when other measures, such as diet and exercise, have not been enough. Lipicard is a prescription medicine used along with an adult diet to lower total cholesterol, LDL (bad) cholesterol, and triglycerides and increase HDL (good) cholesterol. It is also given along with diet in adults to lower severely high triglycerides.
Control of blood sugar levels in certain patients with diabetes mellitus may prevent the need for cholesterol drug therapy. The medicine has not been shown to reduce the risk of heart problems in patients with Type 2 diabetes.
The most common side effects of Lipicard include an increase in liver or muscle enzymes measured by blood tests and congestion or allergy-like symptoms in the nasal membrane. Talk to your doctor immediately if these side effects become bothersome or persist for longer.
Always take the dose as prescribed by the doctor. It is very important to consume medicine timely. The generally recommended dose ranges from 100-200 mg once a day. With time, dose adjustments are generally made according to the patient’s response. Swallow the whole tablet with one glass full of water. Do not crush or chew it. A single dose of Lipicard can be taken once a day. It should be taken empty stomach, probably about 1 hour before the meal.
It can sometimes be taken at least two hours after the last meal. It is best to take it same time daily because it shows the best results and helps to remember when to take the drug. Abrupt discontinuation of medicine can cause adverse reactions. So before stopping the drug intake, always consult a doctor first.
