Description
Metolar 100 mg contains metoprolol tartrate, which belongs to a group of medicines known as beta-blockers. It reduces the effect of stress hormones on the heart associated with physical and mental exertion. This, in turn, reduces heart rate Metolar is effective in treating the following conditions:
— Angina pectoris (Chest pain)
— High blood pressure
— Irregular heart rhythm (arrhythmia) in adults.
Tell your doctor if you notice side effects such as feeling faint on standing due to low blood pressure, tiredness, slow heart rate, dizziness, diarrhoea, constipation, headache, stomach pain, slow heart rate, feeling sick, palpitations, cold hands and feet, problem in maintaining balance, and shortness of breath with strenuous physical activity. Always take medications exactly as prescribed. Check with your doctor if you are unsure about the usage of this medicine. Metolar should be taken with food and on an empty stomach. The recommended dose is:
— For high blood pressure: Initially 100 mg once a day.
— For Angina pectoris- Usually, 50 to 100 mg twice daily.
— The usual maintenance dose for preventive therapy after a heart attack is 100 mg twice daily.
Do not suddenly stop taking medicine; this may cause worsening heart failure and increase the risk of a heart attack. If you wish to discontinue treatment, first let your doctor know.
